Reduced Fat and Reduced Sugar Gluten-free Rice Crispy Treats January 28, 2017
8 – 8 ½ cups of gluten-free crispy rice cereal (10 ounces = 284 grams)
270 grams of gluten-free marshmallows
6 tablespoons of butter
Prepare a buttered wooden spoon, a buttered knife, and a 13x9x2 inch pan and set them aside. Line your buttered pan with cooking paper to easily remove the block of rice crispies later. Melt the butter on low heat in a large saucepan or wok and add the marshmallows. Move the marshmallows and butter about with a wooden spoon until the last marshmallow is almost completely melted. A few somewhat unmelted marshmallows will prevent you from overcooking the mixture and provide a few extra gooey bits. The butter should be well combined into the melted mix and should not appear like melted marshmallows on top of melted butter. Take the pan off of the heat and pour the crispy rice on top of the mallow mixture. Fold until all kernels have been coated and quickly press the mixture into your prepared pan. Use your buttered spoon to move any extra sticky bits (your other spoon will be super sticky at this point). Let the block cool for five minutes. Then cut the crispies with a buttered knife while still in the pan. If you try to cut them while outside of the pan, they will spread out and not be uniform.
This amount of butter and marshmallows will go a long way, but I consider it the minimum for so much cereal. They will not be super gooey, but most people probably won't notice that you've cut back a bit on the fat and the sugar. I use Nature's Path Crispy Rice because I live overseas and can't find plain crispy rice here (we do have puffed rice and chocolate crispy rice, but it's not at all the same). I get the cereal online from iherb. If you click on the affiliate link for the crispy rice cereal and buy something at iherb, I will get some affiliate credit.(Affiliate Link) Click here to get the crispy rice cereal from iherb.
Last-minute Valentine's Shopping and Some Black Paper for White Markers and Pencils January 24, 2017
As a designer, I love using white colored pencils, white gel pens, and white markers – I even love using correction fluid but stopped because one time I used it to write on a balloon and it popped in my face and I got white stuff all over my black pants. Finding black paper to write on is not easy, so I came up with this black paper notepad. It's plain and can be used for doodling, etc. It's ideal for Halloween or personalized messages for turning 40. The black can also be changed to any color. You can also edit or simply remove hotdogtopus.com at the bottom, but don't forget where you got it if you do!
I also wanted to include this top-selling ring from Zazzle. I didn't design it myself, but I thought it would make a nice gift. The gemstone and initial can be customized and you have a choice of silver or gold. I am an affiliate for the product, so if you click on the link and buy something at Zazzle, I will get credit there.(Affiliate Link) Click here to poke around my other products on Zazzle.
My Cold is Finally Gone! January 19, 2017
Well, I'm relieved that my cold is finally gone, but I'm worried it's going to come back like it did last time. Though, a third time would be pretty unusual. I've been working on a shoe design and then thought that it might actually look better on a cell phone, so I tried it on both. Curious what people will think. Chinese New Year is almost here, so I'm looking forward to that. It's going to be hard to go back to work afterwards.Click here to poke around my other products on Zazzle.
Valentine's Gifts for Her & Buttercups January 17, 2017
Another day, another dollar. I had no idea how boring and monotonous life would be until I started 'adulting'.
I've been thinking of Valentine's gifts for her, so I came up with this red dress / nightgown. It's a bit too basic on its own, so I added a white ribbon and it lifts the overall product just a touch. I also uploaded a dark blue dress with yellow flowers – buttercups – that form a belt around the thinnest part of the waist. I hope that's where it will fall on most women, but I'm curious how it will look on average. What do you think?(Affiliate Link) Click here to poke around my other dresses on Zazzle.
Valentine's Gifts for Him January 14, 2017
Today was the worst day ever! That being said, Valentine's Day is coming and the designs must go on.
Every year, women struggle to find a gift for him, whether it be the husband, boyfriend, etc. Valentine's Day is a particular challenge because there aren't many boxes designed for men. I came up with a simple gold box design and also a red and gold design with a fisherman on it. The boxes can be customized to display specific names and dark and milk chocolate options should be available. Sometimes, the assortment option can also be used depending on the holiday. I posted the products above. Again, the name is customizable and there are different chocolate options and designs that can be chosen based on your needed occassion.(Affiliate Link) Click here to poke around my snacks on Zazzle.
Still Sick and a Narwhal T-shirt January 11, 2017
So, I'm still sick with a cold. I could barely breathe last night and this morning I woke up with a bloody nose. I went to the doctor this afternoon and I'm actually feeling a little bit better.
Today I was going through keyword search tools and I saw that people were searching for narwhal t-shirts. I'm not sure why people are searching for those, but I thought, Hey! That might be fun to draw. So, this is what I came up with. Make sure to let me know what you think.
BTW, narwhals are not fantasy creatures like unicorns.Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
Chocolove Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate Review January 10, 2017
I ordered the Chocolove Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate bar a few months ago and it was mostly forgettable. What I do remember is that the almonds were few and a little small. There is something about the Chocolove products that tastes a little cheap to me, but I'm not sure what it is. I think it might just be the process they use to make the chocolate. That being said, I thought the almonds were just salty enough and the price is decent. The product is also a best seller on iherb and is currently rated 4.4 out of 5 with over 4,000 reviews. My affiliate link to Chocolove Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate is here.
If you like products like this, I would suggest the Honey Salted Almonds in Milk Chocolate from Ritter Sport. It's packed with almonds, but the downside is that milk chocolate is used instead of dark. I often buy these at my local convenience store. You can find Ritter Sport's(affiliate link) Honey Salted Almonds in Milk Chocolate at Amazon.com. Please note that if you click on the links and buy something from iherb and or Amazon, I may receive some affiliate credit.Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
Pink Hot Chocolate? January 9, 2017
I'm currently designing products for Valentine's Day, and the first thing on my list is pink hot chocolate. I looked at the ingredients and I didn't see 'chocolate' anywhere, so I'm kind of wondering what it tastes like. I never thought that I would be doing package design for a hot chocolate can, but with the Internet, the sky is the limit!
I'm still struggling with a massive cold. I went to the doctor and they gave me antibiotics because I have a bad sinus infection. After four days, I'm not really doing any better, but my sore throat is gone. My cold always starts in my throat, works its way up to my nose and then into my chest. Sometimes, I'm lucky and my chest lucks out.
I also made a spring birthday invitation with a little girl in a field picking poppies. I remember a little girl that use to trespass in my yard. I told her not to pick my flowers, but she kept doing it. I found out where she lived and talked to her mother, but that didn't stop the girl from picking the flowers, so the next time I saw her in my yard, I cranked up the hose and the sprinklers gave her a good soaking. Never saw her again.Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
I tried Rawmio's Organic Raw Chocolate Truffle 'Cake' January 8, 2017
Living overseas in Asia is not always fun because I can't find stuff that I like to eat, so when I get my routine shipments from iherb, it's similar to Christmas shopping for myself.
This time, I got an (affiliate link) organic raw chocolate truffle cake from Rawmio. It was a bit pricey, but I pecked at it over a few days and it lasted that long only because it's quite rich. I refrigerated mine and afterwards, the top chocolate layer wasn't as creamy. If you're living in a warm area, leaving it out might not be an option.
The top is creamy and has an acidic bite, similar to a medium-roasted coffee. The bottom of the chocolate is glassy and the bottom layer has nuts and currants which form the base. The dry currants are my one complaint about the product because they taste like raisins and cheapen the other expensive ingredients. Raisins are such a tired flavor, aren't they? Also, the product is in no way a cake.
The truffle cake is vegan, organic, soy free, flour free, dairy free, gluten free, and low glycemic. It contains raw cacao nibs, raw coconut flakes, coconut sugar, raw cashews, raw sprouted almonds, raw currants, raw cacao butter, coconut sugar sweetened cacao nibs, and celtic sea salt. My rewards link for the organic raw choloate truffle cake is here. If you click on the link and buy something, I may receive rewards credit.(affiliate link) Click here to buy the chocolate truffle at iherb.
2017 Year of the Rooster T-shirt January 7, 2017
Chinese New Year is Coming!
During Chinese New Year, people clean their houses and their families come home to visit to eat the most important dinner of the year. People also watch “the lion” dance, set off firecrackers, decorate their houses with lucky banners, and visit various temples.
2017 is a rooster year and this year happens to be a fire rooster. I don't think it's a particularly mysterious year, but the general advice is that the rooster year is bad for roosters. I uploaded a design for a T-shirt to Zazzle using traditional red and gold colors for the Chinese celebration. What do you think?Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
Sick With a Cold T-shirt January 6, 2017
Today, I'm sick with a cold. The same thing always happens. I get a cold. I get better after two weeks. Then, I get another cold the next day and it's WORSE! Ugh. It happens all of the time. Then, people try to talk to me and I have to tell them I have a cold with my sore throat and it's just not fun. So, I made the shirt above.
It always takes me forever to get over a cold. It's hard to know at what point it's a sinus infection and or allergies, etc. Does anything help you get over your cold faster? I have tried vitamins, Chinese medicine, and acupuncture and the only thing that seems to work is more time.
On a lighter note, I got my shipment from iherb today. I tried a few of the things already, so I'll be posting about them soon.Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
How to Make the Best Ice Pops in the World January 5, 2017
If you've traveled to Asia, you may have seen layered ice pops made from mango, cranberry, lemonade, and honeydew melon. These are the best ice lollies – ever! They are actually more like frozen sherbet layered into ice pops – twice – for a total of eight layers.
It's a lovely color scheme, but after you're done eating, the colors are gone. So, I thought to make these orange, white, green, and burgundy pencils. It just works, doesn't it?
I've officially quit Pokemon Go and will not continue unless there's a Chansey event. My last three purple eggs were either Smoochum or Jynx and I just can't take it anymore. I gave up at level 30. What about you?Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
Last Day For Pokemon GO Extras January 3, 2017
Well, today is supposedly the last day to catch lots of Charmanders, Squirtles, etc, and I'm a little disappointed because my Charmander candies are still under 50. I'm close to getting Arcanine and I'm still looking for Chansey! I've never caught Chansey in any Pokemon game. Ugh.
I have a purple egg that's going to hatch tomorrow, so I have my fingers crossed. If I get another Jynx or Smoochum, I'll probably just quit playing altogether. I have three eggs hatching tomorrow and if I get nothing, it'll be hard to keep going.
I've continued uploading designs to my store on Zazzle. Most of the stuff that sells well – the stuff I see reported by others online – are wedding invitations, business cards, etc. Those don't seem like very fun products to design, do they? I thought it would be fun to design some pencils, but they seem awfully expensive ($5 each, or something).Click here to poke around my store on Zazzle.
Best New Egg-hatching Strategies for Pokemon GO January 2, 2017
Previously, users reported that blue incubators hatched eggs more quickly than the permanent orange incubator. This is no longer the case. The orange incubator and blue incubators hatch eggs at the same speed now. There are two important things to consider about your incubators. Are you prioritizing egg turnover or are you prioritizing mileage?Click here to read the full post.
I Caught Onix! Then, some mean cards ... January 1, 2017
Oh, I got a wild hair this time. “Positivity sells." My university instructor told me that. It's true, but what is the market for mean cards? Most card companies won't touch them because they're worried about damage to their brands, but I have no value in my brand right now, so why not?
After four long months, I finally caught Onix. I know that other people found him quickly, but because of my location, I usually just get water and normal Pokemon, and the others are really hard to find. The IV was the highest tier, but the charge power was the worst, so I'm not sure if I should just harvest it. Onix is kind of a bust in this game.
The new year is in. I watched Richard Quest hit a Japanese tourist with his own balloon and I'm sure that will be all over Japanese TV. He was later referred to as a 'woman' by Kathy Griffin, further rubbing salt into the global shaming. Quest also commented that the tourist looked horrified and walked away. What a great way to welcome people to America.
